Partners In Haiti

In October 2018, The Joseph School entered a partnership with the Haitian Ministry of Health to help open an abandoned clinic in Cameau, Haiti (a city very near to our campus). Our team —the TJS Board, Haitian and U.S. staff — does an incredible job leading and running our school, but are not as skilled in medical expertise.

That is why we have created a Medical Advisory Board and partnered with Project C.U.R.E.. Project C.U.R.E is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world.

Last month, Sue Healy and Katherine Lay Miller, Nashville’s Executive Director, assessed the clinic. They met with the Operations Team for Centre Hospitalier De Cameau, as well the Mayor of Cabaret and his Director. Their assessments will help our Advisory Board make informed decisions on the greatest needs of the clinic and how TJS can be of assistance.

They were also able to visit The Joseph School campus to meet the students and teachers this clinic could one day serve.

At this time, the clinic is not in operations, but we, alongside Project C.U.R.E, are raising funds for a few crucial items:

  • A container of donated equipment
  • A generator
  • The shipping of a donated ambulance to Haiti

Parties, Presents and Perfect Attendance

What a year it has been for The Joseph School! From moving into our first classroom building to welcoming 30 new students. We have been joyously overwhelmed with all of the transitions.

There have been challenges financially — with completing our second classroom building; and educationally — with supporting our student’s emotional needs throughout the country’s recent unrest. However, we have never lost sight of our mission: educating and preparing tomorrow’s servant leaders in body, mind and spirit.

Our teachers have showed up to class every day ready to inspire and educate our 120 students. Our students have adapted to more testing periods, new curriculum, and new educational spaces (they’ve enjoyed the latter, the most).

We’re so thankful for our growth, both in support and throughout what we do — educating the next generation of leaders. And what better way to celebrate than to have an end-of-the-year gathering with all of our teachers, students and their families.

Let the Celebration Begin!

On December 20th, we held an end-of-the-year program at a local restaurant in Minotrie (where many of our students live). The day’s celebration began with fourth grader, Taina, greeting the guest in English. Followed by numerous Christmas and Haitian songs and performances.

The students then received their holiday presents and first-period grades from TJS Board Member, Natalie Inman. Followed by recognitions from TJS Education Coordinator, Katie Martin, for highest grades, perfect attendance and exemplary discipline.

With more than 200 people in attendance, we had a great time celebrating our Savior, congratulating star pupils, and gifting our teachers and students. It was a wonderful way to end our Fall Semester and we are truly looking forward to everything God has in store for TJS in 2019.

Thank you for following, supporting and praying for our journey!
